Autumn Series 2024 Race 2 and John Apthorp Super Series

John Apthorp Super Series

Try racing in a club series with the support of RYA instructors

This scheme enables both youngsters and adults to compete in their own full race series supported by RYA instructors.

It provides a combination of boat hire, race entry and instructor support.

The races will “piggy-back” on the normal club dinghy races, using the same race officer, starting line and race course.  The difference will be that participants have their own, independent support from instructors, and will compete in their own race series complete with trophies for the top 3 placed.

This is a really great opportunity for students engaged with both the RYA OnBoard and YSS programmes, as well as those club members keen to start racing but who would feel more comfortable with some support.

John Apthop has been a generous beneficiary of the club for many years. He has had a big impact on the RYA training centres fleet of boats therefore we celebrate and thank his kind donations by this series being dedicated to him.

Prerequisites:

  • RYA stage 3 or RYA Level 2 minimum requirements

  • Walton and Frinton Yacht Club Member

Price: Free to members

The series will be scored under the PY low point scoring system and 1 discard for every 3 races sailed.

There are 6 races in the series and ideally competitors should compete in 4 of them.

We recommend you have a waterproof sailing watch to help you with race start sequences.
