Race Report
The second race of the Winter Series saw 12 boats venture afloat although for a number of the fledgling Canoe sailors it proved to be a relatively short-lived exercise. A blustery Northerly meant that short tacking away from the club in very little water (not generally considered to be the Canoe's forte) proved too much for some, and of the seven that launched, only three made it to the start line on time.
First away in Fleet 2 were Lotte and Jannicke Langfeldt (4.7 and Aero 5) followed 15 minutes later by the pursuing pack of faster boats. Martin Jenkins and Tim Oxley (Wayfarer) had an early tussle with Dom Jacobs (Aero7) for pole position at the start and were followed across the line by the International Canoes of Simon Hipkin, Torsten Marquart and Simon Whitehouse. Swampy, putting James Oxley's new boat through its paces, had a poor start but soon overhauled Torsten, who then unfortunately capsized a number of times in quick succession putting himself out of the race. Simon Hipkin managed to stay ahead and crossed the line with a good lead but had to settle for second on corrected time behind the Wayfarer of Jenkins and Oxley. Simon Whitehouse was third pushing Dom Jacobs back to fourth. Lotte Langfeldt did very well to finish fifth with mum, Jannicke, in sixth.
