Race Report

After the first two races of the Spring Series were cancelled due to poor weather, it was nice to finally get underway in slightly more clement conditions. 14 boats, including 7 International Canoes, made their way down to the start in a light to moderate south-westerly. Simon Hipkin (IC) took first place ahead of Martin Jenkins and guest crew, Emily Hipkin, in second, with John Summerfield and grandson in third, both sailing Wayfarers. Simon Whitehouse was 4th in another Canoe, with Tim Wood, also in a Canoe, coming a very creditable 5th. Ella Langfeldt was 6th in her Nimbus beating both her Dad, Torsten (IC), and sister Ella (4.7), who were 7th and 8th respectively.

Just as most of the boats were finishing and waiting for the start of the second race, a proper 'pea souper' descended on the Backwaters reducing visibility to about 20 feet, making racing impossible. Race officer, Alec Moss, wisely decided to send the fleet home for an early pint.
