RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Theory Course

Ideal for candidates for the Coastal Skipper practical course & Yachmaster Offshore exam. Some revision of the Day Skipper shorebased course plus more advanced skills in offshore & coastal navigation by day & night, pilotage & meteorology.

Prior experience:

You must have a sound knowlege of the RYA day skipper theory course.

We strongly recommend you book the prep day too!

Course duration:

40 hours spread over a series of evenings and weekends+ exam time and homework

Content:

  • Position fixing

  • Course shaping and plotting

  • Tidal knowledge

  • Use of almanacs and admiralty publications

  • Electronic position finding equipment

  • Taking and interpreting forecasts

  • Plotting weather systems

  • Weather predictions

  • Using a barometer

To be successfully awarded the certificate you must complete 3 exam papers to a satisfactory standard. The papers are spread out throughout the course.

You will be provided with the RYA Yachtmaster offshore theory course pack and a pack of plotting instruments
